Blog Post: Recruiter’s Notebook: Marissa Ogden

posted Saturday, April 26, 2008 8:14 AM

Name: Marissa Ogden

Job Title/Employer: Senior Agent, Randstad USA

Year of Graduation: 2004

Degree/Major: B.A./Psychology, minor in Business

What kind of recruiting do you do for your company?

I do both internal and external recruiting.  We are always looking for agents to work internally for Randstad. Since we are a staffing firm that places individuals with several different companies here in the Phoenix metro area, I also recruit for external positions.

Who is your company’s ideal recruiting candidate?

We look for emerging leaders. The ideal internal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and limited work experience. He/she must have great people skills and the ability to work with all levels of job seekers. Randstad is an ever-changing environment and the ability to adapt is a must!

What strengths do Arizona State University graduates bring to the hiring table as job candidates?

While attending ASU, students have the opportunity to take advantage of the amazing resources at the Career Center. Here they can research companies, do mock interviews and network with different companies. This in turn helps them to be prepared for the job market.

Also, most of the majors at ASU require internships in order to graduate. This allows future graduates to have hands-on experience within the companies and fields of their choice. It gives them a sense of what to expect.

What can current students or alumni do to improve their chances of finding work with (or though) your company?

The best thing to do to improve the chance of working internally with Randstad is to be proactive. Go to www.RandstadJobs.com and post your resume.

Also, stay in contact with our recruiting team. We hire all over the U.S., so if you are willing to relocate, let us know.

To get a good sense of what internal Randstad agents do on a daily basis, an informal interview or job shadow can be great idea. If Randstad is not the right fit for you, we may have opportunities with other great companies.

Any other job-hunting secrets you’d like to share?

Be prepared! Always do your research on the company you are interviewing with. It shows you took the time to get to know them. Make sure your resume is error-free. Have a friend or career counselor read through it.

Practice! Any interview you go to is practice for the next. Remember, you learn from your mistakes.

Don’t settle! Don’t accept a position unless you are passionate about what you will be doing. Have fun and stay positive!
