posted Wednesday, July 2, 2008 9:03 AM

John A. Garza, Workforce Services Manager for Arizona Public Service, was elected chair of the Maricopa Workforce Connections (MWC) board, the local workforce investment board recognized by the state. He assumes his role as MWC Board Chair for a two-year term July 1, 2008.

Maricopa Workforce Connections (MWC) promotes and facilitates strategic alliances among public and private stakeholders within Maricopa County. Its purpose is to ensure workforce excellence and contribute to the economic vitality for area employers, incumbent and future workers.

As MWC Board Chair, Garza will lead the group in overseeing the Maricopa County workforce development system. MWC Board focuses on increasing the wealth of individuals, businesses, and the community by identifying labor market needs to develop effective, innovative responses to meet industry demands.

A proponent of workforce development, Garza has actively served local groups such as the Private Industry Council (now known as MWC) for more than 20 years. He served on the MWC Youth Council, Development and Executive Committees. Earlier this year Garza represented MWC during Hill visits in Washington, D.C.

Prior to joining Arizona Public Service, Garza was responsible for Diversity and EEO/AA Compliance at the U.S. level for Compaq Computer Corporation and Digital Equipment Corporation.

Garza earned an Associates and Bachelor of Science in Management degree at Western International University in Phoenix, Arizona.
