Blog Post: Do you have talent to share?
posted Monday, August 18, 2008 11:00 AM
So you maybe thinking, I want to volunteer but I don't have any talent or tangible skills. NOT TRUE! Many people don't consider things like the basics as talents. If you can speak English and can read you have talents! These are valuable tools that can help others change their lives.
Now what? Do you like working with adults? Children? Teens? Can you do work on a computer? Why not become a mentor or a teacher? There are many individuals who are yearning to learn how to speak English or to use a computer. Where do you go? Arizona has more non-profits per capita than New York so finding an agency that works best for you should be easy. There is a non-profit directory that lists all of the non-profits in the valley or you can always use Good Search to find one. Did you know that Good Search is a fund raising search engine for non-profits? Just click on www.goodsearch.com and select your charity of choice (Unlimited Potential) and each search you make will then translate into CASH for your charity. If you use it frequently that can really add up for the charity! Back to your talents: Make contact with the non-profit you choose to volunteer for: Unlimited Potential 602.243.7376 is my recommendation! They will then find a perfect match for your skills to their needs. Unlimited Potential www.unlimitedpotentaialaz.org has a great need for individuals with computer skills. Do you know how to program? Can you do excel spread sheets? WE NEED YOU! We are opening our computer lab to the public and need someone to volunteer to supervise the students who will be using it. They tend to have few computer skills and need someone who can help show them the basics about computers. Is this your opportunity knocking? Call me and we can make it happen. Karen's tip: Even if you don't really have an idea of what you want to do, the non-profit will have a variety of things they need volunteers for and can let you try your hands at many different activities...
