Blog Post: Using Games in Training
posted Thursday, September 4, 2008 10:22 AM
Training is serious business. So how can we "just play Games" in a training course?
According to the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD), the three most effective approaches to instructional delivery are Role Play, Simulation, and Game. These approaches are gaining in popularity in current training practice because they offer flexible opportunities for reinforcing learning. And they work! So what makes games so effective? According to Clay Stevens, 30-year veteran of training and game development, the game environment:
We are not talking about using parlor games like Monopoly. The types of games used in training are designed to produce specific actions, results or behaviors that are intended to last well after the training program is completed. Lasting results occur because participants experience situations in the game environment that they are able to relate to and apply in real life. If you would like to experience games as a training tool, our next event is being hosted at Jobing.com on September 18, 2008.
