posted Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Yesterday, we learned of the untimely passing of our friend and colleague, Don Mock, Jr. Don was an integral part of our community relations team and a dynamic presence at Jobing.com for the past two years.  With his unwavering commitment to helping job seekers and passionate enthusiasm, Don was a natural fit for the Jobing.com family from day one.

A Valley native and graduate of Chandler High School , Don was dedicated to serving the community in a variety of ways; he volunteered on the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Committee; he also served on the Board of Directors for Jobs for Arizona 's Graduates and was a Board Member of the Arizona Small Business Association.  Don was a long-time volunteer for Arizona BattleBots IQ (AZBBIQ) an organization that teams up engineering, manufacturers and production companies with Arizona high school students for a unique competition.

With his warm and friendly personality, Don touched many lives throughout his career and made an unforgettable difference in the lives of many.  His positive attitude would always conjure a smile on the most challenging of days, and his distinctive laugh could fill the room

Prior to joining the Jobing.com family, Don worked for University of Phoenix Online and IT Connections.  He his survived by his parents and four sisters, who all live in the greater Phoenix area; our hearts and prayers go out to Don’s family and friends during this difficult time.  We will all miss him dearly.

Services for Don Mock, Jr. will be held on Tuesday, October 21 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chandler (230 W Galveston St).  The visitation will be Monday, October 20th from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm with the Rosary at 7:00 pm at the Bueler Chandler Mortuary (14 W. Hullet Dr, Mesa).

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Jobs For Arizona Graduates c/o P.O Box  10937,  Scottsdale, AZ  85271.

Don:

I met you earlier this year and thought you were one of the finest your man I have ever met in my lifetime. You Helped me to "Partner" with JOBING.COM and set up a "home" for The Sonoran Desert Security Users Group (SDSUG). My membership of 650+ in the State of Arizona will miss you dearly.

Our Love and Prayers go out to your entire family, not just your Parents and four Sisters, but your Jobing.Com family and all the friends you made on earth for the short time you were here. I guess that the Lord has some work for you to do for him now and while we would have liked you to be with us longer, we know that you are in a much better place and now doing work for the Lord.

You will be remembered by all the people whose hearts you touched.

Our Love, Prayers, and Deepest Sympathy go out to your Family and Loved ones.

We learned of Don's passing this evening and are devastated by the loss of this wonderful person. He was a dear, dear friend, who will always be with us. There are no words to express our sadness. His energy, good intentions and willingness to always try to help, were what made him a great friend and I can only imagine that those traits worked well for him in his job. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, his family (wonderful, kind people), his friends, and his Jobing.com family, all of which were so important to him. We will miss Don with all of our hearts!

Don-

I will never forget how you opened me with open arms when I started with Jobing.com. You took me out for a Mexican dinner and then we went to play pool…even though I didn’t know the difference between a solid & stripe ball. You really wanted me to play though so I went with you and your nice friends. I thought you were kidding when you told me we would play thirty pool games that night but you weren’t kidding. Thanks for taking me home after two games...even though it might have been an inconvenience to drive back to the pool hall afterwards.

I followed you for an entire day during training and realized then the impact you had on the Arizona community & the Jobing team. We spoke a lot last week and you helped me establish a new relationship with a great association in Colorado. Thank you for introducing me to an amazing group of professionals at CSAE! I will forever be grateful for your support with this partnership.

Thanks for your sense of humor Don. Thanks for being a leader with your encouraging team emails and sharing your thoughts during conference calls. I know you are in a good place. I know you are happy. I will always remember your strong presence and the calmness you brought me whenever we interacted. Thank you for the life you lived.

Don was such a big man - not just in the breadth of his shoulders or the way he stood out in a crowd, but in the way that matters most - the size of his heart.

His long reach stretched across our community, bringing people together to support each other and to make a difference.

His engaging personality and bigger smile made people feel valued and welcomed - he cared and it showed.

With a quiet word, a piece of advice, a joke, a strong hand, or shoulder to lean on, Don was the person you knew you could turn to and that he would be there - engaged, present in the moment, and sincerely interested in you and willing to do what was needed to make things better.

To all who loved him, friends and family, our prayers are with you. From all of us that he touched, we are better for having known him - and we miss him already.

Joan Koerber-Walker, Arizona Small Business Association

With shock and disbelief, I learned of Don's passing yesterday while at the Jobing.com job fair. I always looked forward to seeing him at these events, and sharing some good natured joking around. Over the past couple years, Don encouraged me on a couple things, and made me feel like my contribution mattered. - further words just really escape me here.

He will be missed. My heart goes out to all of the Jobing.com family.

Donnie was a great friend from my childhood - we met when we were just 8 or 9 years old. We shared so many laughs and a few tears. He had a great sense of humor, an inviting laugh and a mischievious smile. I hope that everyone who new Don Mock will come to his service so that we might share in the memory of his short life and lean on each other as we tear from this worlds loss. My thought and prayers go out to his parents & sisters. Their house was always friendly and open to our visits. I hope to see all of you Tuesday as we pay respect to DONALD Z MOCK..

Don - you were amazing - and you are so missed. Your enthusiasm for work and people was extraordinary. I have always enjoyed walking through the doors of Jobing.com or ASBA to hear the latest and greatest about Jobing, the community or social media. I'll miss lunches at Meatballz . . . Who's bedda den youz? Nobody! To your family and friends - we've lost a wonderful man who will not be forgotten.

Don,

As so many others have said, I have no words...just sadness. You and I served on many boards and committees together, and always made me feel like someone was glad to see me. Whether we were chatting at a meeting, or going to baseball games, I always felt like you were a friend. I can't even fathom how many people's lives you have touched and made better, and how many people will truly miss you. My heart and my thoughts are with you and your family. Rest in Peace Don.

I just heard about Don's passing and was so sad to hear about the loss that it will bring to everyone and most especially his family. I have only know Don for a year and he brought new light to the ASBA board that he participated on. He always had a smile and a really warm friendlyness. I loved his outgoing personality. He will be missed and my thoughts go out to his family.

Don,

You will be missed. I worked with him before and have known him outside of work and he was a funny guy and very open and welcoming. Playing pool with him was fun. I was just out there 2 weeks ago and we were trying to get together but it never worked out. I feel bad about that. Godspeed Don! You will be missed!

Don- It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we say good bye to you. You were a man who was larger than life in both stature and in spirit. The Association for Construction Career Development and the Arizona Construction Career team will be ever touched by having known you. Your brilliance and passion for bringing a concept and people together was only one of many of the talents you possessed. But it was in your welcoming and genuine nature that made knowing you so special.

Our partnership with jobing.com was made possible because of your vision and taking something great and then taking it to the next level. The magnitude of your outreach was endless and we will miss you greatly as a friend and colleague. Our prayers and condolences are extended to your family as we know they will miss you as we will.

Don, you opened your arms to your community like no one I have ever known, but I do know heaven will hold you now... in the arms of the Lord.

God Bless you and your loved ones,
Rose Ann Canizales President – Association for Construction Career Development

To all of Don's family and friends I wish to send the heartfelt sympathy of those who knew him in his neighborhood.

Don was a recent Board Member of the Papago Vista Neighborhood Association, and I had the privilege of serving with him as he gave of himself to improve our neighborhood. He was bright, jovial and kind, and I enjoyed his contributions a great deal. He worked very hard last Christmas to provide donated gifts for prizes for our Christmas Lighting Contest. Everyone in our area appreciated his efforts.

Don will be missed, and my family will pray for him.

I'm just stunned. Don was a warm, generous person whose attitude was always how to help, how to get things done, and how to make things better. He was a huge supporter of community activities, and his impact was felt across the Valley. He will be missed by the people who knew him directly, and by the many people he benefited who may have never known his name.

We thank all of you who were able to attend the services for Don. Your kind words and actions meant so much to all of us. I hope you enjoyed your visit to our home. I heard your laughter and your sobs when we watched the video put together by his friends and know that you genuinely cared for him. The tree planting was unexpected for me as it probablly was for you. I have to tell you the tree is beautiful and I can look out the window of my computer/genealogy Coca Cola decorated room and see not only a living memory of Don but also the memory of his friends and co-workers who pitched in and helped dig the hole. Sorry but all cleaning bills will be retuned to sender. Heat and Tylenol will help sore backs. Thank you so much, you are living proof that your generation has great good and we have nothing to fear of the future. Don's Mom

Oh Don....I did and always will think the world of you...While distance only afforded us face-to-face memories a few times our community family is felt throughout the country and weather face-to-face, email, or IM every interaction with you was memorable. Your humor, creativity, and all around pure goodness will be missed. I look at pictures of you and my heart just simply smiles. I wish you peace and please know that while only for a short while this world and most definitely the Jobing family is better for having been touched by you.

I am so thankful for the wonderful interactions I had with Don during my employment with Jobing.com. I will always remember Don welcoming me with a huge hug and an even bigger smile each time I flew out to Phoenix for work. Always there with a smile, laugh, hug and a joke were staples of Don. I too became acquainted with Don during SHRM 2007 and I will never forget the contributions he made to his company, community and the people he interacted with.

I will miss you friend.
