Blog Post: Are Seniors in Phoenix Excluded from the Current Mortgage Crisis?

According to a recent study published by the AARP, that doesn't appear to be the case. Their findings report that Americans age 50 and over represent about 28 percent of all delinquencies and foreclosures in the current crisis.

I further analyzed the report to see how it specifically affected the individuals who typically fall in to the category of those most often seeking assistance inside their homes, the clients of Right at Home.

The numbers show that Americans age 50 and over hold about 41 percent of all first mortgages; although, of that number, only 5 percent represent those age 70+. This is reassuring, as families we meet have enough burdens to face without adding mortgage delinquency or negative equity to the mix.

Remember the days of the "mortgage burning party"? Ask a member of my grandparents' generation, and I'd be willing to bet they could tell you the day they paid off their mortgage, and what a great feeling it fostered.
