Blog Post: Why do you own a Senior Care business in Phoenix?

posted Friday, November 21, 2008 9:25 AM

Hmmmnnnn....good question! I have heard it before. The people that know (or knew) me wonder it. The folks I used to work with in past "lives" ask it also. You see, my background is not in Home Care. It's not in any Medical or Health based career field.

My background ranges from service in the United States Military, Law Enforcement and Executive Level Positions in Fortune 500 Corporations. So ... Why Home Care for Seniors?

Some time ago, I was working as a Vice President in a global Information Technology company. I was driving to work and I felt the need to pull over my car and think about something real. Here I was in my early 40s. I had a great job that paid great money. I worked with people I liked for the most part. I had a wonderful staff of people that made me look great. I had a wonderful new wife. But there was something missing.

I thought about things and, as I did, I remembered some key points. I had a chronic stomach illness and had been through three major surgeries for it. I had many failed relationships. I was constantly running somewhere to do something "important" with my job. At one point I remember doing a huge presentation about how 6 month's work saved .002% of my budget on a program. I was suffering from what I like to call Ben Franklin Disease. I was confusing MOTION with ACTIVITY. I wasn't doing anything that helped anyone.

I decided at that point, at the side of the road; that I NEEDED to do something right. I decided then that it was time for me to help people. As I searched for a new opportunity to help folks, it became plain and clear that the Senior Citizens in America are the most under-represented group there is. They are abused, ignored and misunderstood. They have the most experience to offer us and often are cast away. To satisfy our guilt some of us convince ourselves that there are Government programs that "take care" of them. They don't. We should.

Since I purchased the Right at Home Senior Care Agency, I feel much better about my contribution to the universe. I don't make the kind of money I used to, nor do I sit in 5-hour long meetings about where we are going to take our next President's Club trip. I now spend my time helping my Business Partner and our WONDERFUL team of Caregivers and Office Pros manage In Home Care for our Clients in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Carefree, Cave Creek and Fountain Hills. It was and IS the right thing for me to be doing.

I love my decision and my chosen career. I'd love to talk to you about it. If you ever have a question about Senior Care and the needs of the Elderly in Arizona, please let me know.

Thanks for reading!
