Blog Post: What Do I Want to Be When I Grow Up?

posted Wednesday, January 7, 2009

It's time to take an inward look.

You may know every detail of what you want from your career or you may be completely open to any possibility that could come your way – either way, having thought this question through thoroughly will help you in the decisions that you will need to make in your search.  So, brainstorm.

Think of what you want in one year, two years, ten years – then scale back to what you will need to do now to make that vision happen.  Think of what you like to do, where you feel like you are in your element, and what you find most rewarding.  If this process is tough for you, start reading job descriptions – as many as you can.

Take note of everything that sparks your interest and see if you can build a clear picture of what your ideal job description would look like.  Also keep of what the requirements are for this 'ideal job' – they can serve as a blue print for how you will build your resume/career.
