Blog Post: Machining Manufacturing Industry Outlook
posted Tuesday, December 16, 2008
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 2008-09 Edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook, about 78 percent of machinists work in manufacturing industries, such as machine shops and machinery, motor vehicle and parts, aerospace products and parts, and other transportation equipment manufacturing.
Despite the projected decline in employment, job opportunities for machinists should continue to be good as employers value the wide-ranging skills of these workers. The number of workers learning to be machinists is expected to be less than the number of job openings arising each year from the need to replace experienced machinists who retire or transfer to other occupations. Now more than ever is the time to register for classes at colleges that offer courses in machining to learn and prepare you for the demand of skilled labored in the machining manufacturing industry. There are also internships with local employers that can give you hands on experience to become knowledgeable in the field. Information cited from http://www.bls.gov/oco/
