Blog Post: True or False...?
posted Wednesday, February 4, 2009 3:52 PM
I woke up one morning recently to the sound of a radio advertisement pitching a new TV show called "Lie to Me". The ad said something to the effect that
I'm not sure if this is exactly what the promo said because I was still half asleep, but this is what I remembered hearing. If I were not so focused on ethics, I would have hit the snooze button and tried to grab a few more minutes of sleep, but my ethical brain said "Too late! You heard it, now process the information!" My mind kept turning the question over and over until it decided that, in effect, this means should question anything someone says, since his or her words are likely to be a lie. Is this true? If so, how sad! I'm not sure I like the direction this is taking us, do you? I'd prefer, maybe naively, to assume that people are telling the truth until proven otherwise. I'd like to surround myself with honest people who have integrity and are willing to be held accountable for their actions. I haven't watched the program yet, but I will check it out just to ensure I'm being fair and not making a huge error in judgment. But if it's true that people are lying 3 times in 10.... What do you think?
