Blog Post: But That's Not the Job I Want!
posted Friday, April 3, 2009 3:03 PM
I'm hearing more and more clients talk about how they don't apply for positions with companies that they want to work for because the position is not the job they want. They are, in essence, holing out for that particular job in that certain field.
Realize that the job you want is probably the job that many folks internally want. Therefore, you best bet during times like these is to apply for any position (generally the entry-level positions are the ones that make it to job boards) that the company has posted. Once getting hired on, demonstrate your worth and, after 12 - 18 months, transfer to the department that you were originally interested in. Companies tend to staff positions internally. Therefore, during slower periods, only entry-level positions tend to be open. So pick the company and apply for what they have open. Worry more about your fit with the company's culture than your passion for the job. After all, in a year you'll be transfering anyway. Good luck in your search!
