Blog Post: Engaging & Energizing your Top Performers

“What do you do with senior employees who are just putting in their time until they can retire?” A frustrated Human Resource manager posed this question after one of my employee engagement presentations. In response, I later surveyed via email the 130 people attending that presentation; interviewed twelve people across the United States from California to Maryland , including employee engagement consultants, high-level HR professionals, and other managers. They represent public and corporate management.
Although frustration threads throughout the responses, some suggestions and solutions are shared below and present a collective body of information that you, as a Human Resource professional or employee manager, will welcome and can adapt for your particular circumstances. In order to re-engage these employees, leaders must provide opportunities for personal and psychological growth, allow them to express themselves (boomers generally love to talk), and seek out their opinions based on their years of experience.
