Blog Post: Thinking Big - Creating A Success Mindset

posted Sunday, June 14, 2009 11:08 PM

Do you know how to think BIG?  Or do you allow the negative thoughts that run through your mind to control you, paralyze you and force you to play small?  One of the most important starting places to live a successful life is to become aware of what is playing inside your head and replace all negative thoughts with positive, supportive and empowering thoughts.

The most important indicator of success is your belief system – if you believe you can succeed, you will.  If you believe that you cannot do something, then your belief system will support you and you will not be able to do it.  Disbelief is a negative power: think doubt and it is guaranteed you will fail.

So how do you develop a supportive belief system?  For starters, I strongly recommend that you read the book The Magic of Thinking Big by David J Schwartz, Ph.D.  The book is very easy to read and it provides excellent information, tools and practical exercises to help you develop a success mindset.

According to Schwartz, “Where success is concerned, people are not measured in inches or pounds, or college degrees or family background; they are measured by the size of their thinking.  How big we think determines the size of our accomplishments.”

Here are some of his tools to start you on your path of successful thinking:

1)      Believe it can be done.  When you believe something can be done, your mind will find the ways to do it.  Believing paves the way to a solution.  Eliminate “impossible,” “won’t work,” “can’t do,” “no use trying” from your thinking and speaking vocabulary.

2)      Don’t let tradition paralyze your mind.  Be receptive to new ideas.  Be experimental.  Try new approaches.  Be progressive in everything you do.

3)      Ask yourself daily, “How can I do better?” There is no limit to self improvement.  When you ask yourself, “How can I do better? Sound answers will appear – try it and see.

4)      Practice asking and listening.  Ask and listen, and you’ll obtain raw material for making sound decisions.  Remember – big people monopolize the listening, small people monopolize the talking

5)      Stretch your mind.  Get stimulated.  Associate with people who can help you think of new ideas, new ways of doing things.  Mix with people of different occupational and social interests.

Start thinking big and believe, really believe, you can succeed, and you will!

Here’s to your success!
