Blog Post: Being at your best during your job search
posted Sunday, June 17, 2007 4:48 PM
In pursuing your next job, it's not easy to have your game face on at all times. There's a lot of uncertainty, rejection and pressure. In the face of those things it's a struggle to be at your best at all times.
However, the next person you talk to could be the bridge to your next job, and if you're not ready, wearing your game face, that bridge could dissolve before your eyes. I discussed with a group of my clients what it means to be 'at your best.' Here is a list of the descriptors they came up with. As you read this list, see how many of them should be at the front of your mind at every step of your job search: "When I'm at my best, I am ___" Prepared Open, with curiosity Having fun Outgoing So energetic and alert that I almost speak too fast Passionate Dedicated Excited Engaged A victorious warrior Outgoing Confident Determined Focused Creative Unself-conscious Are you some or many of these things while you pursue your next job? A hint from a pro in this business: Fake it. Envision yourself as that victorious warrior.
