We are all looking for a chance, an opportunity to show how and why we are talented. How do we find that chance, that opportunity? How do we find ways to grow our skill sets outside of our current job path (how do you become a manager without managerial experience or other types of experience)? You do it by positioning yourself for success.
I have worked in all levels of organizations; start ups, small, mid, and Fortune 500 size. Each of these size/levels of business has their own personalities, understanding a business’ personality AND your desired personality style of a company is how to find a great fit to live and grow. With that said, there are potential pros and cons for each environment and certainly different values for different people, but one underlying theme surfaces: if you want plenty of room to grow and lots of opportunity for growth, there is no better value than a small business. To be able to get market value, market benefits, wear an expert hat walking in the door, but have the opportunity to sponge up any other area that the organization needs (or your desire as a career growth path) is the key to a small business. My recommendation is to: There are great opportunities out there for individuals with talent and a desire to be a part of those organizations that can both increase their value down their career path but even potentially fatten their wallet in the process.
