Blog Post: APS and Palo Verde School to Work Internships - Earn Money While Learning!

PHOENIX - Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station is offering one-year Maintenance Internships  for individuals interested in gaining industrial work experience while pursuing their college education.  The internships, part of the APS School-to-Work program, begin in January 2008; applications are due by October 19, 2007. 

"Internships at Palo Verde have proven valuable to individuals who are exploring careers in the skilled trades," says Palo Verde Maintenance Intern Advisor, Terry Jones. "Not only do members of the community benefit from this program, but also APS, as we build our pool of candidates for future employment at the plant."

Qualified interns must be at least 18 years old, be a current Arizona resident, and have a high school diploma or GED. The internship enables individuals to explore careers in several industrial maintenance disciplines including machinist, mechanic, electrician, instrumentation and controls technician, welder, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning technician. 

Interns will be paid an increasing wage scale as they progress through the program. In addition, through a partnership with the Estrella Mountain Community College, APS will pay for tuition and books for 19 credit hours of specially designed, prescribed course work. Interns, who will work at least 20 hours per week at Palo Verde, must maintain at least a "C" average in all college courses and must also maintain satisfactory work performance throughout the internship.
