We have been explaining the new law, what to do to prepare, how to reduce liabilities - but when all is said and done, what are you expecting to ACTUALLY happen in 2008?
I have heard the following "Thoughts" -

That said, I hope they do what the law says. Will it hurt the economy? Probably. Will it crush the economy? Doubtfully.
Either way, it is something we will recover from (we always do), and will be good for the state over time.
From the state's perspective it will increase cost in several ways. Enforcement costs (not currently funded) and reduced tax revenues. The reduced revenues will be caused by more illegals moving to the underground economy - where taxes are not collected. Few if any will migrate back to their home country.
One other unintended consequence will be to drive wages at the bottom end of the wage scale higher. This will occur as employers using legal workers compete for employees against employers that previously used illegal workers. This will have the affect of percolating up the wage scale.
As services find it necessary to pay higher wages at the bottom of the wage scale, consumers will find it necessary to pay higher prices (or do without). Those services driven out of business will affect other businesses that they purchased from.
The unintended consequences will ripple through the economy for some time to come....
I am not saying I agree or disagree with the regulation. I am saying that I am a law abiding citizen. I'm not concerned about the impact on my business.
