Blog Post: Finding a focus and a forte

In the technology arena, we often times are asked to wear so many hats we don’t know if they match or not.  There are opportunities out there that do allow you to have a new found focus.  The ability to strive and grow up a path that allows for back filling of positions, allowing you to become the knowledge center.  How do these positions happen?  Typically by having a focus or a specialization.  The days of past of focusing in C or being the resident expert on COBOL are gone (or, at least don’t allow for the growth we are talking about).  A new focus around process and executing successfully around those processes are the new key/focus allowing for serious growth and personal accomplishment.  Examples of the types of processes I am talking about are: 

• Application/Software support (the specialization really doesn’t pigeon-hole you as the overall process is applicable at any software house). 
• Quality Assurance (all software organizations need thorough and confident individuals to make sure the software does what it needs to be doing).

These types of styles of jobs allow for a focused environment without limiting yourself to what other future technologies might offer.  Allow yourself a focus and you might find it to be a great forte for you.
