Blog Post: It's about the Thank You Note and the Follow-up
posted Thursday, October 16, 2008
Did you attend the Jobing.com Career Expo yesterday? If so you should be busy today writing Thank you notes...
Remember to write a thank you note following the career expo or interview. This is a dying art so it is really appreciated when it happens. Always make sure you collect the business card or contact information of the person or people you meet during your interview process. This will make writing and addressing the thank you note smooth. Take the initative and call the employer back in 2-3 days following an interview. Get talking points together prior to calling to help you stay calm during the call. Remember to ask for the job if you are really interested. For example, "I am very interested in what we have discussed today. Can you share with me what our next step in order to move forward will be." Make sure to reference any points from the interview that stick out in the thank you note and follow-up. If during the follow up a potential employer says that they have chosen another candidate, make sure you tell them to keep you in mind for any future openings. If it's a company you are really interested in working for, then another thank you note after a few weeks can't hurt either. To keep you job seeking organized it is a good idea to keep a file or folder for each employer you are applying with and the status of your search. Remember, keeping you job seeking organized will assist with timely follow-up and ensure you do not miss the opportunity you have been looking for!! Have a great day and see you next time!
