Blog Post: Technology....not always where you'd think to find it
posted Monday, January 21, 2008 4:18 PM
Technology is a wonderful thing. You find it as an integral part of even the most basic of companies. I never realized how much technology would play a factor in my line of work.
Starting with the back end programming, writing of the software, designing of the elements of our webpage, and the interface with the front end of the site. I spend never ending hours of my week grueling over every detail, from prioritizing what must get done, and what "I like" done. From start to finish our programmers are writing PHP, working every little detail into what we need accomplished, and tweaking everything to run as smoothly as possible. Then comes the processing of all those orders placed by customers, and assuring they get everything support wise that was promised to them. I have the graphics people constantly updating and changing the look of our site, creating new graphics, and uploading new content to our website. You'd think from the sound of it that maybe I worked for some large firm, or maybe a huge marketing, or website company. Well, I am, but it's not for what you'd think. I produce greeting cards, yep, greeting cards, the ones like your grandma sends you every Birthday, and at Christmas time. The difference is, that we at www.greetingstar.com have come up with a way to bring you the ease of typing an E-card, but actually give you, a loved one, even a customer or client a real, physical greeting card, and mail it for you. All from the comfort of your home or work. Greeting cards are a 6 billion dollar a year business in the United States alone. Just goes to show, you never know where you'll find a use for technology, even in greeting cards. The only limit to what you can achieve, is the limit of your imagination. Brian Nething
