Every year Arizona Call-A-Teen Youth Resources, Inc. (ACYR) inducts a group of deserving young adults into the National Adult Education Honor Society. The students are nominated by the instructors at each of the four ACYR Adult Education Learning Centers. NAEHS nominations are based on dependable attendance, a cooperative attitude toward peers and faculty, displaying attributes of the Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship), and demonstrated effort and initiative while performing school-related tasks. Membership in the NAEHS is limited to a select group of adults who demonstrate these positive characteristics while enrolled in an adult education program. Nationally, fewer than five percent of all adult education students receive NAEHS recognition. On February 28, 2008 , ACYR honored 10 exceptional students. There were over 50 friends and family to support the honorees. Guest speakers included Pam Smith, Executive Director of ACYR, and Paul Franckowiak, Education Program Specialist and ACYR’s liaison to the Arizona Department of Education. Each Honor Society member receives a letter of recommendation for employment from NAEHS headquarters, and an NAEHS membership certificate and pin during the school’s induction ceremony. The mission of the National Adult Education Honor Society is to provide meaningful recognition to deserving adult education students, to improve student employment opportunities, to develop student ambassadors for local adult education programs and to create adult education awareness with school administrators and state legislators. Since incorporation as a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization in 1976, Arizon a Call-A-Teen Youth Resources, Inc. (ACYR) h a s been dedicated to providing an array of education, training and employment for in- and out-of-school youth and young adults. During the past 30 years, ACYR’s programs have helped change the lives and enhance the future of over 40,000 young people in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Throughout the years, our mission has remained the same – To transform lives, build futures, strengthen communities, and develop our greatest natural resource…Youth. www.azcallateen.k12.az.us
