Blog Post: Sometimes You Just Have to Stop and Throw Snowballs
posted Monday, March 17, 2008 1:26 PM
It's a rare thing to drive up North in Arizona a day before St Patrick's Day and get to see the land covered in snow. This past weeked I got to see just that. We did stop and have a snowball fight. Sometimes you just have to stop and evaluate what you have been missing.
I often think about how, as a Community Relations Manager, I can have a greater impact with those around me. How the many job seekers out there rely on that extra thing to set themselves apart, that differentiation (as some of you have heard me say). This morning I got reminded just how much of an impact. I dropped my car off at my dealer I was stopped by one of the service mechanics. His initial response was, "Hey I know you. I have seen your picture on the website. I need some help." He proceeded to share how he hasnt had the best of luck in finding a job. He wasnt doing what he wanted to be doing, so he has gone from job to job and wasnt sure how best to share that with potential employers. First let me say I am not used to getting recognized on the street from my Jobing.com presence but am always ready to help when I am recognized. We discussed changes he could do to his resume (by visiting the many blogs about resumes on Jobing.com). It also made me think of one of the workers one of my pool buddies hired. The person he hired didnt have very many marketable skills. What he didnt have in skills he made up for in attitude. He always arrived on time to work. He showed up consitantly and never missed any work. He did his job well and completed all that was asked of him. My buddy said it was all he could ask for from an employee. Sometimes the skills dont measure up to the attitude and desire. The passion and belief that you can present in your resume or your voice when you talk to a potential employer is sometimes the best thing you can show. Sometimes you just have to stop and evaluate what you have been missing. Throw some snowballs at your next interview. Show them your passion, desire and attitude. Community Comments
