The Director of Quality Assurance (QA) will lead all aspects of the Nammo Talley Inc. quality system, and will be ultimately responsible for conformance to specified requirements, customer satisfaction, quality and reliability of the products and services delivered from Nammo Talley‚s four production facilities in Arizona, Utah, Mississippi, and Pennsylvania. The Director of QA will demonstrate strategic thinking and independent judgment and discretion to plan direct, manage and control programs, procedures and personnel in the Quality Assurance Department to prevent or eliminate defects in new or existing products, and continuously improve overall company quality.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* The Director of QA will be a key member of the Nammo Talley leadership team, with broad budget responsibility and organizational authority to ensure that company financial, operational and strategic goals are achieved.
* The Director of QA will directly lead a diverse team of about twenty-five people including quality engineers, quality auditors, and quality technicians. He or she will manage quality functions including quality engineering, receiving (incoming) inspection, mechanical, electric, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic calibration services, nondestructive testing, assembly (in-process) and final shipping inspection, and vendor monitoring and control. He or she will indirectly lead the culture for quality throughout the organization.
* The Director of QA will ensure an acceptable level of product quality as established by customer and company requirements, including quality of purchased material, in-process material and finished goods involving testing and shipping requirements.
* The Director of QA will define policies complete long-term actions action for all quality-related initiatives including Six Sigma continuous improvement; investment of quality-enhancing capital; implementation of lean inspection and manufacturing execution systems, and reducing wasteful cost of poor quality.
* The Director of QA will work closely with the Vice President of Engineering and the Director of Integrated Supply Chain to ensure that Nammo Talley engineering designs are manufactureable, and Nammo Talley production processes demonstrate industry leading first-pass process yields.
* The Director of QA will act as primary interface with all US and international governmental quality agencies, prime contractor quality departments, and related organizations.
* The Director of QA will act as company's Quality Management Representative for third party certification purposes including ISO-9001 registration.
* The Director of QA will develop and execute the QA department budget, then monitor and control quality control labor and equipment resources to meet production requirements.
* Key metrics of success will be 1) customer escape (PPMD) prevention; 2) RCCA cycle time and effectivity; 3) cost of poor quality (COPQ) reduction; and 4) internal process yield improvement.

Skills / Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/EXPERIENCE

* Bachelor‚s degree in business, engineering or a related discipline is required. A master‚s degree is preferred and will differentiate competitive candidates.
* 15 years‚ experience in quality assurance, program management and manufacturing with evidence of progressive supervisory responsibility to include a minimum of five years in quality leadership for a company with a MIL-Q-9858, ISO-9001 and/or AS-9100 based quality system is required.
* A third party professional certification such as American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Manager (CQM) or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) is strongly preferred.
* Familiarity with Six Sigma continuous improvement techniques is required. Six Sigma Black Belt certification by a recognized industry organization or company is desired.
* Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and quality engineering disciplines, principals and applications; knowledge of major military standards and specifications; knowledge of US department of Defense contracting standards, familiarity with US Department of Defense organizations including Defense Logistics Agency (DLA); Defense DLA-DCMA-QAR duties and responsibilities; skill in reading, interpreting and understanding U.S. Government Contracts; knowledge of terms and conditions of purchase orders from major defense contractors; comprehensive knowledge of propellant and ballistic product lines; skill in supervising different disciplines of engineering and technical employees; skill in oral and written communications.
* Must have tact, insight, and discretion in dealing with a global base of subordinates, peers, superiors, vendors and customers.
* Must possess the ability to obtain US Department of Defense security clearance and US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearm (ATF) Responsible Person approval.
* Prior clearance and ATF approval is preferred but Nammo Talley Inc. will aid successful candidate in application process as an element of the normal transition into new role.
