GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
The Head Start Substitute Teacher is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the educational program, philosophy, and goals to students and their guardians in the absence of the Head Start Assistant Teacher, and in some cases, the Head Start Teacher. Position is responsible for the academic, social, behavioral operation of classroom. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Supports Head Start policies, procedures and philosophy of the program. • Assists in the completion of the necessary documentation (on-going child assessment/observations, lunch count, attendance log, and Health/Family contact log). • Works cooperatively with Head Start staff and families. • Maintains a positive working relationship with the schools, community agencies, the grantee, and delegate agency staff. • Assists in maintaining a neat and organized classroom. • Participates in developmentally appropriate indoor/outdoor activities. • Implements federal, state and local health and safety policies and procedures. • Performs additional duties as assigned which are consistent with the general responsibilities of the position. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
Ability (through on-going training) to become knowledgeable of normal child development. Ability (through on-going training) to become knowledgeable of the Head Start Performance Standards for teaching. Ability to develop daily lesson plans and utilize standard educational equipment. Able to work in a diverse, multi-cultural environment. Effective written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Must have ability to exhibit mature judgment and emotional stability. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 21 years of age (licensing requirement). High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 6 months experience working or volunteering in a school/education environment, child care center, or home child care. Possess a valid Arizona driver’s license and be insurable under the agency’s automobile policy. Bilingual skills preferred (English and Spanish). OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to provide DPS fingerprint clearance. Must be able to meet training and agency compliance requirements for the position. Mental Requirements • Ability to effectively communicate in the English language. • Ability to gather and interpret moderately complex information. • Ability to interact well with various levels of staff and with guests of AzCA. • Ability to communicate, comprehend and perform functions from written and oral instructions. Physical Requirements • Indoor/outdoor working conditions with frequent activity. • Frequent physical effort (lift/carry up to 30 lbs.). • Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling or crouching.
