Overview: Under the direction of the Head of the Civin Laboratory of Neuropathology, with limited to moderate latitude for independent decision making within limits delegated by Head, the Pathology Technician I will perform routine to complex autopsy and laboratory procedures. The person in this position will be trained and capable of performing basic autopsy and laboratory techniques and histological slide preparation, including cutting and staining paraffin-embedded and frozen sections. The Pathology Technician I will lead a rapid-response brain removal and processing team and must be on call for this duty 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, every 3rd month Responsibilities: 1. Perform various laboratory tests in accordance with standard practice. 2. Write up laboratory test results based on interpretation of scientific data. 3. Has basic understanding in the use of appropriate lab equipment and procedures. 4. Responsible for maintaining current laboratory knowledge. 5. Other duties as assigned, such as labware preparation and cleaning, ordering and maintaining lab supplies. 6. Performs duties for on-call brain autopsy program. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Requires B.S. degree, 2 year technical certificate or equivalent experience. Incumbent must maintain absolute confidentiality regarding human subject identity and must have ability to communicate sufficiently to perform duties in a manner consistent with departmental scope of services and standards.
