Jobing Description
Gray Development Group (GDG) is an established real estate development and property management company focused on designing, building and managing upscale, innovative, multi-family residential communities. Named the number one multi-family builder in Arizona for seven of the past eight years, we are in pursuit of the best accounting leader in the industry to complement our talented team of professionals located at our Corporate Office in the beautiful Biltmore Corridor at the Camelback Esplanade.

This position is a hands-on role and manages the company-wide accounting function including implementation and maintenance of strong internal controls and best practices.

We seek an experienced and high energy accounting leader who cultivates a high performing team environment that is based on best practices and delivering stellar customer service. This position requires a degreed professional with an active CPA license – no exceptions. Aptitude to own strategic initiatives with a hands-on approach is a critical responsibility in this role.

Key Accountabilities include:
  • Oversight of the accounting department to ensure deadlines and deliverables are met.
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls, best practices and documentation to support financial transactions.
  • Direct team responsible for all daily, monthly and annual accounting transactions including preparation and review of all Company financial statements and account reconciliations.
  • Oversee corporate and property cash management function.
  • Coordinate forecasting, planning and budgeting efforts with the Finance department.
  • Serve as primary liaison with tax accountants, external auditors or other third party service providers to execute audit preparation and achieve successful audit findings.
  • Maintain ownership of accounting systems including coordination of upgrades, implementation, conversions and reporting tools.
  • Direct Assistant Controller to ensure timely financial reporting, accurate account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, accounts payable and payroll processing including required filings and related benefits, review of construction draws, reporting and loan activity and collections.


  • Skills / Requirements
    Required Qualifications:
  • BS/BA degree in Accounting from an accredited university
  • Active CPA license (no exceptions)
  • Must have 10 or more years of accounting experience including at least two (2) years of previous and recent Controller experience including responsibility for the audit process with a CPA firm.
  • At least 5 years of management experience including project management skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of GAAP and the real estate or property management industry.
  • Demonstrated computer and technology skills including Microsoft Office products and accounting systems.
  • Experience with multiple entity structures including substantial volume of intercompany transactions and complex ownership.
  • Proven strong leadership and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage competing demands, deadlines, priorities and evolving expectations.
