JOB TITLE: Radiology Technologist DEPARTMENT: Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory BASIC FUNCTION The Radiologic Technologies (Rad Tech) operates all radiological equipment in the Laboratory. The Rad Tech can assist with patient care in the Recovery Room under the supervision of the Recovery Room Staff Employee as well as scrub procedures within the Laboratory. The Rad Tech must work with fellow technicians, RN’s, and Physicians in performing the duties associated with the various areas of technical expertise within the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. DIMENSION The Rad Tech will assist the cardiologist in performing in-patient and outpatient diagnostic and interventional catheterizations. The Rad Tech will be capable of using the current devices within the Laboratory. The Rad Tech will be capable of identifying cardiac rates, rhythms, and pressure waveforms. The Rad Tech will also assist in the Recovery Room with patient care as delegated by the Recovery Room Staff Employee and activated clotting as scrub tech as assigned by the Technical manager in accordance tot their ability and training. This position will be directly responsible and accountable to the Cath Lab Supervisor or designee. The Rad Tech will be capable of assisting with current Research protocols. NATURE AND SCOPE The Rad Tech will assist the cardiologist in the performance of the diagnostic and Interventional procedures under the direction of the Recovery Room Staff Employee. The Tech assists with patient-specific care pre, during, and post procedure assignments. The Rad Tech will be cross-trained to function as the Scrub Tech as needed. The Rad Tech will be responsible for archiving images and making all CD copes. Skills / Requirements
KNOW HOW
Must be a graduate of an AART program. Two years of diagnostic and interventional laboratory experience is strongly preferred. Knowledge of EKG Interpretation, arterial/venous line pressures, and sterile technique is mandatory. Must possess a current BLS certification or attain one within three months employment. Must be capable of assisting the cardiologist during both diagnostic and interventional procedures. A working knowledge of personal computers is strongly recommended. HUMAN RELATIONS Must display mutual respect as professionals and reliance on one another’s skills during inter-team relationships. Must provide support and assistance as required for a team of equal professionals during inter-team relationships. Must display the ability to change and learn new skills, work in a self-directed team environment, and have a positive attitude towards change. Must build strong and close relationships with physicians that are dedicated together in providing personalized patient care. Must develop strong rapport with families while providing patient education and support. PROBLEM SOLVING The Rad Tech must be creative and innovative in approaches to problem solving and work effectively in stressful situations associated with peak workloads and complex problems for the patient population. The Rad Tech will be self-motivated and be capable of working with limited supervision. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Will assist the cardiologist in the performance of both diagnostic and interventional procedures. 2. Works with the Research personnel in understanding current Protocols. 3. Assists in the Recovery Room with patient care as requested. 4. Assists with transporting patients to and from the laboratory. 5. Identifies rhythms and pressure waveforms and reports to RN as necessary. 6. Verifies all paperwork, laboratory values, and consents are obtained prior to the start of the procedure. Reports missing or abnormal findings to the Recovery Room Staff Employee. 7. Assists with the patient and family teaching. 8. Stocks the Laboratory and cleans it between procedures. 9. Follows Protocols as outlined in ARMC’s Policy and Procedure Manual. 10. Capable of working shifts, holidays, weekends, and on-call as assigned by the Cath Lab Supervisor to assure department coverage. 11. Capable of utilizing CPR activities as ordered by the physician. 12. Accepts positions as delegated by the Cath Lab Supervisor. 13. Willing to be cross-trained as a Scrub Tech and assist the cardiologist as assigned. 14. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Cath Lab Supervisor as necessary. 15. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in universal precautions and infection control procedures. 16. Attends education programming to increase knowledge and support competence. 17. Understands and observes all ARMC and department specific policies. 18. Respects and protects patient rights and confidentiality. 19. Promotes and demonstrates behaviors that reflect ARMC’s philosophy of service of excellence. 20. Utilizing the General Electric System, archives all previous day’s procedures. 21. Copies all previous day’s procedures onto Exabyte tape. 22. Completes all required documentation concerning exposure, projections, and devices. 23. Attends all mandatory programs as required by regulatory agencies. 24. Performs all other duties as assigned by the technical manager or as necessary. |
