The Mission of MIM

The Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) will celebrate the similarities and differences of the world’s cultures as expressed through music – a language common to us all. With musical instruments from every country in the world, MIM will pay homage to the history and diversity of instruments and introduce museum guests to their varied and unique sounds. MIM will be an engaging, entertaining and informative experience, in which the uninitiated and the knowledgeable, the young and the old will feel welcome. MIM is scheduled to open in early 2010 in Phoenix, AZ.

Position: Security Team Member

Essential duties: To maintain a controlled and safe environment for all MIM facilities, parking lot and surrounding in a manner that ensures the safety of the guests and team members and the protection of the collection.

Specific duties include:
• Ensures the protection and safety of the collection, the team members and guests.
• Greet guests, provide way-finding information, and explain museum security requirements as needed.
• Provide information about exhibits and instruments.
• Coordinate with Volunteer Guides to provide Guest Service and Security.
• Maintain order and access control at various door positions.
• Maintain security rounds of the physical building and respond appropriately to any unusual circumstances, alarms and emergencies.
• Inspect all packages leaving the museum and insure proper authorization of museum property leaving museum through the use of package permits.
• Maintain a visual inventory of the collection items and the physical structure in any assigned area at the beginning and through the end of the shift. Report any irregularities in placement or condition of collection and/or physical structure to the appropriate supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• High School Diploma.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a position requiring frequent interaction with the public.
• Must represent the museum and security team in a professional manner using good public relations skills.
• Good communication skills, both written and oral.



Other:

• Must possess ability to assist in physically restraining or subduing individuals if necessary.
• Evening and weekend work required.
• This position reports to the Security Manager.
• Love for music is a plus!
