Jobing Description
The purpose of this position is to receive and dispatch 911, emergency and non-emergency calls from the public for police personnel to perform a variety of general support duties related to the operation of the communications center. This is accomplished by receiving 911 calls for service; responding to land-line calls for service; managing radio communication and 911 console operations; maintaining information in the computer-aided dispatch system; assisting police officers in compiling criminal information; processing requests from detectives and the courts; and performing clerical law enforcement duties. Other duties include training new employees; entering property data into system; representing the department on the employee recognition committee; and receiving and verifying data on a monthly basis.
Responds to land-line calls for service by utilizing various equipment and software to answer incoming calls from the public and determining the emergency or non-emergency status of each call; obtaining and recording accurate and detailed information and relaying it to the appropriate personnel and department; entering the details of the emergency into the database system and dispatching emergency police and fire personnel immediately; and providing general information to the public. Skills / Requirements
High School diploma or Equivalent (GED) required. Skill in typing (minimum 35 wpm NET), word processing and use of computer software applications.
Education or training related to criminal justice, law enforcement, or law enforcement communication is highly desired. Previous heavy telephone or dispatch experience preferable. The ideal candidate has prior experience working in a busy environment requiring constant prioritization of tasks and handling various tasks simultaneously. Must have the ability to obtain an Arizona Criminal Justice Information System Terminal Operator Certificate (TOC) within one year of hire and review every two years. Bilingual (Spanish) highly desired. Valid Arizona Driver�s license upon hire. Important Notes
