Under general supervision from the Substance Abuse Program Supervisor, provides counseling and treatment to clients referred to the Chemical Dependency Program or other behavioral health programs. Provides therapy, assessment and evaluations. This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt. 1. Performs intake screening, assessment, evaluation and testing for client diagnosis and placement. Interprets screening results and develops and maintains treatment plans and progress notes for initial assessment, update reports and aftercare reporting. Develops and provides comprehensive Chemical Dependency treatment and Aftercare programs for adolescents, adults and families receiving counseling. Assists clients in understanding causes and contributing factors to their problems. 2. Provides counseling and education on behavioral health issues to incarcerated, court-ordered and referred individual, group, adolescents, families and guardianships. Confers with law enforcement, court personnel and other Tribal agencies on issues impacting treatment of the client. Attends court-ordered hearings regarding clients and their programs. Attends weekly multi-disciplinary case staffing meetings to present case summaries, discharge and transfer information. 3. Conducts follow-up visits to treatment centers to ensure service program needs of the client are met. Identifies and implements current referral resources for chemical dependency in adolescents such as, but not limited to, Halfway House treatment, Transitional Centers and other services as appropriate. Coordinates client needs with other resource programs, agencies and/or organizations. 4. Attends on-going training to retain/re-certify alcohol/substance abuse license and/or professional certifications. May participate in staff in-service training to improve internal skills base. Creates and distributes information to SRPMIC regarding therapeutic resources available. Participates in prevention and early intervention Community awareness events. Attends seminars and workshops to enhance professional knowledge and skills. 5. Provides monthly statistics on client data. Utilizes CDMIS and other program data in a proficient manner for required reporting. Maintains counseling records and writes summaries and reports on individuals receiving counseling. Ensures the strict confidentiality and protection of all counseling records and reports. 6. Performs other job related duties as assigned by the supervisor. Skills / Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Social Work or closely related field and 3 years full-time behavioral therapy work experience OR an Associates degree and 5 years full-time behavioral therapy work experience required.
• Required to obtain or maintain current certification/license in Alcohol/Substance Abuse (Certified Alcohol Counselor) or CADAC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor) within 6 months of hire. • Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of an extensive background and drug test. • Must have no prior convictions or offenses relating to minors or elders. • Insurability: Must possess a valid Arizona operator¡¦s license and be insurable under the tribal insurer requirements which are outlined as follows. Must be at least 18 years of age and have one (1) year of driving experience in the class of vehicle operated. Driving disqualifications will occur if during the last three (3) years, the driver has any of the following convictions: for a felony; sale, handling or use of drugs; alcohol or drug related offense that is automobile related; three (3) or more speeding violations; more than two (2) speeding tickets in excess of 15 mph; one or more other serious violations. ¡§Serious violations¡¨ are defined as: driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs; violation for alcohol offence during use of a vehicle; failure to stop/report an accident; driving while impaired; making a false accident report; homicide, manslaughter or assault arising out of the use of a vehicle; driving while license is suspended or revoked; racing; attempting to elude a police officer. Other disqualifications would include having a driver¡¦s license suspended or revoked and involvement in two (2) or more chargeable incidents. Important Notes
