Salary Range: $30,430 - $43,534 Job Posting: 9153 Opening Date: October 26, 2009 Closing Date: October 30, 2009 Classified This is a unique opportunity for a service-oriented individual to work in the Public Works Department in the Street Services area. RESPONSIBILITIES • Resolves a wide variety of customer inquiries pertaining to public works field services (traffic signals, street maintenance paving, alleys, asphalt condition & potholes, street sweeping, multiuse path issues, unpaved roads, dust complaints, dust control, drainage issues, ponding water, mosquito complaints, wash maintenance, weeds & vegetation overgrowth etc.) problems. • Responds to situations requiring extensive knowledge of City ordinances, policies and Citywide maintenance responsibilities. Uses a wide variety of complex computer programs and operates an assortment of other office equipment including multiple-line telephones, two-way radios, paging systems, copier and FAX machines, printers and plotters. • Organizes and maintains division-wide disc storage and filing. Retrieves, inputs and monitors customer data and history by accessing numerous computer screens. • Performs the more complex accounting work in the division. Reconciles monthly division accounting with Financial Services reports through independent computerized financial monitoring database. Directly responsible for reconciling large sums of money, either through justifying payments. Works with minimal supervision, taking ownership for the completeness and accuracy of day-to-day work. • Seeks out innovative methods to streamline and improve processes. Assists directors, managers, and other staff with presentations, spreadsheets, complex records and graphics using advanced computer skills. Prepares a variety of complex statistical and narrative reports. • Supports other staff members and, as a team player, assists other personnel with their job duties. QUALIFICATIONS
• Three years of recent clerical or secretarial experience and at least one year of direct customer service experience resolving various customer service needs. • The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office products (specifically, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint), business English, grammar, spelling and arithmetic as well as general accounting procedures. • Must have the ability to multitask, prioritize work, follow written and/or verbal instructions; effectively and courteously communicate verbally with irate customers, often under stressful circumstances; establish an effective working relationship with co-workers, supervisors, other departments and the general public; and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
