Jobing Description
Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
· Provides general medical care and treatment to patients in both emergent and non-emergent settings as defined by the Arizona State Board of Nursing Scope of Practice for Registered Nurses.
· Possesses excellent clinical judgment and is able to prioritize decisions and act quickly in the best interests of the patient
· Provides advanced life support (ALS) emergency medical care to patients including applying, reading, and interpreting electrocardiograms (ECGs), administering medications, and using appropriate electrical interventions to support cardiac function when necessary
· Performs rapid, precise, practical mathematical calculations pertinent to the medications and supplies used in emergency patient care
· Observes, records, and reports to appropriate receiving facility personnel patient conditions, reactions to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents
· Neatly and accurately documents pertinent patient information on prehospital care reports, patient refusal forms, and transport forms.
· Maintains a safe and healthy workplace in accordance to the standards set forth by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration and Rural/Metro-Southwest Ambulance Standard Operating Procedures.


Skills / Requirements
Requirements:

Applicants for this position must have the certifications and qualifications as follows:
• At least 21 years of age
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Current Arizona licensure as a Registered Nurse for a minimum of one year; three years of ER/CCU experience preferred
• RN licensure verifiable as in good standing with the Arizona State Board of Nursing
• Must be able to function independently and at an optimum level in a non-structured environment that is constantly changing
• Evidence of completion of a basic electrocardiogram (ECG) recognition course
• Current CPR card
• Must have a current Arizona driver license with acceptable 60-month record
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) card
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Education for Pre-hospital Professionals (PEPP) card – (is this a requirement…no they have to have this certification in order to gain employment with us? I have heard both ways)
• Must successfully complete the UMBC Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Program within one year of hire
• While performing the duties of this job, the RN is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, computers or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to coordinate vision, finger, and hand movements in taking vital signs, performing CPR, administering medications/narcotics, setting up equipment, turning equipment off and on, and balancing self when lifting /moving or stabilizing patients. Walking and standing are major components of this job. Sitting is necessary for transportation to and from medical facilities. The RN will be required to assist in lifting and carrying injured or sick persons to the ambulance and from the ambulance into the hospital.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 150 pounds when needed and move object/materials to locations that might be up to 100 feet away.
Cognitive/Psychosocial Requirements:
Ideal Candidates will have the ability to follow simple and complex written and verbal instructions. Ability to read and understand English
Working Conditions:
Candidates must be able to withstand varied environmental conditions such as extreme heat, cold and moisture. Southwest Ambulance is a 365, 24/hr. per day, 7day per week operation. This could include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
