Position Title: DUI Task Force Volunteer Department/Division: Highway Patrol Division – DUI Enforcement Squad Workplace Address: Phoenix Metropolitan area – Various; As determined by Task Force Number of Hours/Week: Flexible depending on volunteer availability; typically holiday weekends. Days of Work Week: X Sat X Sun 0 Mon 0 Tues 0 Wed X Thurs X Fri 0 Flexible: Holiday Weekends Start/End Hours: 6:00 p.m. – 3:00 a.m. Position Description: The DUI Task Force is a group of law enforcement agencies working together during the holidays and at times of greatest need to remove impaired drivers from our roadways. Task Force dates/DUI details may include St. Patrick's Day, Cinco De Mayo, and weekends that include Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Halloween, and throughout the Christmas Holiday Season. Volunteers will work under the supervision of a DPS Sergeant and will be responsible for assisting officers with tasks such as logging in detainees, record keeping, compilation of statistics, and other administrative duties. Other responsibilities may include fingerprinting, assisting with forms completion, and the packaging of property and evidence. Volunteers may also be requested to assist other volunteer groups with miscellaneous logistical tasks such as maintaining refreshment areas, etc. Application and Selection Process: Human Resources reserves the right to remove this position posting without prior notification. Once the application is completed and returned to Human Resources, the application will be reviewed and individuals may be selected for an interview. Upon successful completion of the interview process, the applicant will be scheduled for a polygraph examination, drug screening and background investigation. Qualifications: Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license. Must have the capability to work late hours and the capability to communicate well with people. It may be necessary to deal with possibly irate and/or intoxicated individuals. You may be exposed to foul language and emotional extremes while volunteering and must be able react tactfully and professionally to agitated or upset individuals. Must be able to maintain an accurate inventory and possess good written communication skills. Good organizational skills are also desired. For safety reasons, volunteers must be able to follow specific direction.
