Position Open: With the exception of Phoenix, applications are being accepted for positions statewide with immediate needs in the Kingman, Flagstaff, Yuma, Prescott, Sierra Vista and Globe areas.
Position Title: Chaplain Department/Division: Agency Support Division Workplace Address: District Offices identified in the areas described above. Number of Hours/Week: Flexible hours as time and other official duties permit. Days of Work Week: Available to serve as needed on a 24-hour call basis, as time and other official duties permit. Start/End Hours: Flexible Position Description: The Department is seeking the volunteer services of clergy representing many different faith groups (ministers, priests, rabbis) to provide assistance to employees during very difficult times involving high degrees of stress. This would include officer involved shootings, accidents with multiple injuries or death, next of kin notifications, suicides, incidents involving young children and other types of traumatic events. The chaplains’ role is to be available for officers, staff, their families and citizens of the state. All chaplains invited to be a part of the program will be afforded the opportunity to receive training designed to enhance their ability to work with people in crisis situations. Chaplains will also be provided with information relating to other Department resources available to officers/staff involved in critical incidents. Upon successful completion of the interview process, the applicant will be scheduled for a polygraph examination, drug screening and background investigation. Qualifications: All applicants must meet the following qualifications:
1. Applicant must be ordained or licensed and in good standing with the chaplain’s faith group. 2. Have a current Ecclesiatical Endorsement as a fully qualified clergy person of the certifying faith group, as a clergy person in good standing, and as a clergy person with permission of the chaplain’s endorser to participate in law enforcement chaplaincy. 3. Be willing to support directly or indirectly the free exercise of religion by all members of the Department, their families, and others to whom they may minister. 4. Possess a Bachelor’s Degree and have completed a minimum of 120 credit hours of graduate theological education. 5. Be able to adhere strictly to Arizona law regarding the Rule of Privilege and Confidentiality. 6. Realize that while one’s own faith and faith practices must be maintained according to one’s church rules, while on the job as a Department Chaplain the practice of proselytization is against Arizona state law.
