$38,105.60 - $51,438.40 Annually
Salary Information:Offering salary will be made between the minimum to midpoint of the posted salary range for this position, based on qualifications and experience. Employees may progress through the full salary range, subject to their successful performance and annual budget approval.
Under limited supervision, preserves the O'odham language by developing and maintaining an O'odham language education plan, develops O'odham language education materials, provides training for Language staff and teaches the O'odham language classes for the benefit of the Ak-Chin Indian Community (ACIC).

 Minimum Qualifications:

Must possess language fluency in comprehension and speaking the O'odham language and must be able to read and write the O'odham language. One year experience in teaching O'odham language/cultural classes. High school diploma or equivalent. One year supervisory experience is preferred. Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License and be able to meet the Community's insurance carrier requirements. Must successfully complete a background check.

 Examples of Duties:
  • Preserves the O'odham language by coordinating, developing, and maintaining an O'odham language education program for all ages of Community Members within the Ak-Chin Indian Community.
  • Prepares and administers a budget for the Language Program including approving expenditures, inventory of office equipment, and all project planning expenses.
  • Coordinates the development of O'odham educational/instructional materials for ACIC Language Curriculum.
  • Organizes, schedules and teaches O'odham language classes for all ages within the Ak-Chin Indian Community.
  • Coordinates and evaluates staff development for Language Program employees.
  • Coordinates language working sessions with Ak-Chin Elders and Community
  • Members for the development of an ongoing O'odham Language Education Plan, as needed.
  • Manages Language Program grants, implementation, and maintenance for language maintenance and preservation.
  • Coordinates visual and written articles for the Ak-Chin O'odham Runner Newspaper in the O'odham language.
  • Coordinates, prepares and receives monthly progress reports from the staff and submits reports monthly and annually to the Cultural Resources Manager.
  • Coordinates on-going supervisory training related to Language Preservation conferences and professional development courses as required by the Cultural Resources Manager.
  • Conducts annual employee performance evaluations and is responsible for timely and proper completion of them.
  • Coordinates teamwork with Cultural Resources staff in making presentations for Community activities and meetings as needed.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

 Other Requirements:
  • Knowledge of the culture, traditions, and history of the Ak-Chin Indian Community.
  • Ability to speak the O'odham language fluently and have some level of reading and writing the O'odham language.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English and O'odham languages.
  • Ability to evaluate employees.
  • Skill in instructing all ages of individuals using a variety of teaching methods.
  • Skill in communicating and working with Elders and Community Members.
  • Skill in the operation of a personal computer, and using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability and willingness to use initiative to complete job responsibilities.
  • Ability to work as a team member of the Cultural Resources Office.
