The University Technology Office (UTO) is at the forefront of developing IT platforms and tools that add value to the student experience. Reporting to the Executive Director, Strategic Finance and Business Office, and as part of the UTO, this Finance Analyst position will contribute to the effective management of finances. This individual will need to know how to look across the organization to provide comprehensive financial services as well as interface with the appropriate departments and stakeholders to instill confidence in the financial objectives so that SFBO goals are met. This Finance Analyst is important in supporting SFBO’s goal to provide outstanding customer service. We do this by pursuing continual improvement in operational excellence. Our goal is excellence across the spectrum, from strategic planning to individual transactional processing, and everything in between. Our key measure of success is the ability to know and communicate UTO’s financial position today and five years in the future.
The Finance Analyst is responsible for detailed cost and financial analyses. Develops and interprets detailed cost accounting information and makes recommendations regarding the efficient utilization of resources and the proper accounting for transactions. Exercises discretion and creativity and works on detailed assignments of a varied, diverse and difficult nature. Assists in solving complex technical problems in areas where no precedent exists.
Depends on experience
Performs specific tasks related to departmental budget monitoring, including identifying cost centers and their related expense.
Tracks overall spend for the University Technology departments budget and units as well as individual vendor activity and identify variances from forecasted figures.
Monitosr compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
Provides technical assistance in the design of cost accounting or reporting systems and related forms and documents.
Assists with the provision of advisory services to units with respect to updating billing rates and interpreting cost accounting data.
Recommends alternative solutions to cost accounting problems.
Performs specialized financial or cost analyses.
Assists in reviews of financial and internal controls to determine whether such controls are adequate to meet management objectives and ensure the safeguarding of assets.
Performs specific tasks related to reviews of management practices and policies.
Recommends changes to enhance operating efficiencies.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related area (or a Bachelor's degree with advanced accounting coursework) AND two years of auditing, cost accounting and/or financial analysis experience; OR, Master's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration AND one year of auditing, cost accounting and/or financial analysis experience; OR, six years of progressively responsible and diverse accounting experience and coursework; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Experience in Excel capability such as pivot tables, Vlookups, etc
Contract monitoring experience
Workday application experience
Access database experience
Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills
Experience interpreting technical network equipment materials quotes and invoices or getting assistance from subject matter experts
Experience in effectively establishing priorities, multi-task, assist others and maintain productive working relationships
Experience in working independently
Demonstrated knowledge of cost and financial accounting principles, practices and procedures.
Demonstrated knowledge of principles and techniques used in conducting management studies, system analyses and financial analyses.
Demonstrated knowledge of internal control systems and procedures.
Experience in performing complex numerical calculations.
Experience in preparing complex management reports on a timely basis.
Experience in the use of personal computers and related financial and statistical software products.
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
Clearly communicate to perform essential functions
