ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Active Transportation Program Manager in the Programming and Project Delivery Division of the Street Transportation Department will possess a demonstrated track record of managing high profile pedestrian and bicycle transportation projects, studies and programs in building safe transportation options for residents. This position requires extensive experience in transportation planning and design, partnership building and collaboration with diverse stakeholders in this large auto-oriented city. This candidate will bring innovative ideas to the table through strong written and oral communication skills, while working towards the best solution to balance the needs of all users of the right-of-way.

The Active Transportation Program Manager ensures compliance with the City's adopted policies and coordination with other City departments, MAG, and MCDOT on key planning issues. As part of daily activities, the candidate will manage the collection of bicycle and pedestrian counts, implement the Valley Path Wayfinding System, manage the Sidewalk Modernization Program and work in close coordination with the Office of Pedestrian Safety, T2050 Mobility improvements, Key Corridors Master Plan and the Complete Streets initiative for appropriate bicycle and pedestrian amenities and treatments.

The Active Transportation Program Manager will oversee the program budget for the Bicycle Master Plan and coordinate with MAG on all regional and federal awarded funds related to Phoenix Street Transportation and the Regional Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

This recruitment may be used by any department for any current or future vacancies over the life of the eligible list.

RECRUITMENT DATES

SALARY

$60,174 - $89,856 annually. Candidates may be hired above the minimum depending upon qualifications.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Four years of experience in the practice of civil engineering, including lead or

  • supervisory experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related engineering degree.

  • An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - The job requirements listed above, plus:

  • Master's Degree in urban planning, public administration, civil engineering, urban design or a related field.

  • Five years of progressive planning experience, demonstration of progressive project management experience, including managing consultants or staff, meeting deadlines, managing budgets, and ensuring accountability; proven successes with active transportation planning and Complete Streets, pedestrian and bike mobility and safety, street design, and traffic engineering.
