PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  

Parent Aides are responsible for direct delivery of social services to the children and families of Arizona. Encourage and support the implementation of parent involvement activities. Provides advocacy and support services information to families about community resources and assists them in accessing appropriate services. Document using discretionary judgement on parent-child interactions during supervised visits and making recommendations of reunification of children with parents.

  

  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  
  • AA degree in any Human Service Field and have at least two years' experience in the Human Service Field (i.e. Group Home, Shelter Care, Behavioral Health field) working with children, families, and or adults, as verified on a resume and reference verification.
  • Knowledge of child development parenting skills
  • Capable of working with diverse cultural populations
  • Knowledge of and ability to access community resources
  • Knowledge and understanding of family dynamics and family centered services
  • Experience in cultural diversity, substance abuse, impact of child abuse and neglect on child development, sexual abuse, medication, and other interventions
            
     
  • Knowledge of infant and child development and  parent-child attachment, mental health and the dynamics of child abuse and  neglect
  •  
  • Knowledge and experience in strength-based and  family-centered provision of primary prevention services
  •  
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication  skills.
  •  
  • No more than 3 moving violations on your driving record  within the past 3 years
  •  
  • No at-fault accidents within the past 3 years
  •  
  • No license revocation within the past 3 years
  •  
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening every 6 months
  •  
  
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES 

  
  • Develop and work with clients and their families referred to program by funding source.
  • Travel to placements and supervised visitation locations.
    • Travel to placement to pick up and drop off children
    • Travel to supervised visitation location
    • Travel to client’s home as approved by the Department of Child Safety
    • Travel may include borderline counties of Maricopa, Coconino, and Navajo
  • Provide appropriate and timely services as indicated in the parenting plan or as deemed necessary by the Department of Child Safety.
  • Demonstrate respect for client, foster placement and children in a non-judgmental manner and will respect client’s rights to privacy and confidentially.
  • Monitor and document the physical and emotional health of children during supervised visits and assist parents in demonstrating how to care for them.
  • Responsible for transporting children to supervised visits and using discretionary judgement in ensuring children are safely transported, supervised at all times and reporting any incidents immediately.
  • Responsible for making recommendations to the court for the purpose of determining reunification of children with their parents.
  • Maintain consistent communication with DCS Case Managers with updates on progress and providing recommendations on each individual case.
  • Maintain accurate and timely written reports, summaries and contact logs.
  • Administer evaluative/assessment instruments upon request of case manager and/or supervisor. 
  • Attend regular meetings with supervisor to review case history and implement objectives; attend staff meetings and other as requested.
  • Must have access to safe transportation with appropriate Arizona drivers’ license and automobile insurance as required by State of Arizona. 
    • Vehicle must be able to safely transport minimum of 3 or more children
    • Vehicle must have 3 working seatbelts in the backseat
    • Vehicle must have good working air conditioning (A/C) and heating system
  • Adhere to all contractual agreements between PA and funding sources and adhere to agency policies and procedures
  • Conduct client assessments to assess the risk factors for the family and decide what curriculum is appropriate based on family need
  • Assess the safety of children during supervised visits and decide if visits are safe to continue
  • Make decisions to end visits when they are deemed unsafe for the children
  • Assess and decide if the family has completed services successfully or unsuccessfully
                                                

SECONDARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES

  
     
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to refer  families to appropriate services, including those offered by Parenting  Arizona and CPLC.
  •  
  • When subpoenaed, testifying in court regarding a case  according to PA policy.
  •  
  
  • Attend special meetings, trainings, workshops, conferences or join committees related to job as requested by supervisor or executive director.
  • Carry out activities in annual work plan and agency’s strategic plan.
  • Ability to travel statewide as needed
  • Other duties as requested by Parent Aide Lead and/or Program Manager
          

CONTINUOUS EDUCATION

  

It is expected to participate in continuous learning, competency building and maintenance of competency skills.  A minimum of 20 hours per Fiscal Year including but not limited to Relias Learning & Conference.

    

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  
     
  • Supervising visits between parents and children (at no point can the children  be unsupervised by the  Parent Aide)
  •  
       
    • Level 1 visits are between 4-6 hours of direct  supervision
    •  
    • Level 2 visits are minimum 6 hours or more of direct  supervision
    •  
     
  • Transporting children from placement to supervised  visit location and back to placement
  •  
       
    • Children may be a multiple placements
    •  
    • Transportation may be 1 hour or more based on distance  of placement and visit location
    •  
    • Transportation may cross over to bordering counties in  Maricopa, Coconino and Navajo
    •  
     
  • Must be flexible to schedule changes based on family  and funder needs
  •  
       
    • Must be available to work evenings and weekends
    •  
    • Visits can occur as early as 8:00 a.m. and end as late  10:00 p.m.
    •  
     
  • Documentation

    • Parent Aide must document any children interaction  during the transportation time on their monthly report
    •  
    • Parent Aide must document all interaction between  parents and children on their monthly report
    •  
    • Monthly reports are due the supervisor on the 3rd  day of the month
    •  
     
    

ACCOUNTABILITY

  

Reports to and is supervised directly by the Program Manager and/or Parent Aide Lead. Employee will be:

  
  • Accountable for understanding and complying with CPLC and DCS policies and procedures.
  • Meeting all documentation deadlines.
  • Transporting children safely following the Arizona Law of Car Seat regulations.
  • Reporting any incidents and/or emergencies to their direct supervisor within 8 hours of the incident.
