DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Child Protective Services Worker investigates reports of child neglect/abuse. The incumbent makes home
and school visits to interview children, parents, and other household members regarding their investigation. It
may be necessary to make court appearances and testify in court.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
o Respond to referrals by making prompt and thorough investigations to determine the nature extent and cause
of any condition, which is not in the children’s best interest.
0 Conduct school and/or home visits (both scheduled and unannounced) to interview children, parents, and
other household members and is expected to spend time on the phone talking to references, counselors,
doctors, attorneys, or anyone else with information regarding an investigation.
0 Prepare and ?le reports and neglect/abuse petitions with the court.
0 Initiate procedures to take a child or children into temporary custody when it has been determined they may
be in grave danger, in accordance with Section 4.104 of the Children’s Article in the Gila River Indian
Community Law and Order Code.
0 Coordinate efforts with Law Enforcement, the Law Of?ce, Tribal courts and other community resources toensure that prosecuted cases are handled professionally and expeditiously.Maintain strict con?dentiality at all times on child welfare cases.Provide written reports on monthly cases or when requested.May be required to make court appearances and testify in court.Meet regularly with the Child Protective Team at the hospital and staff on appropriate cases.Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
0 Knowledge of issues related to child abuse and prevention.
0 Knowledge of and the ability to work cooperatively with other community resources.
0 Ability to identify, relate to and communicate with children and residents of the Gila River Indian Community,
as well as with persons from varied economic, educational and cultural backgrounds.
0 Ability to work independently and to make dif?cult decisions based on observations and documentation
related to cases.
0 Ability to maintain accurate, up to date ?les, records and reports.
0 Ability to work weekend and evenings on rotating or on-call basis.
0 Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Of?cials and the
general public.
0 Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Human Services, Counseling or a
closely related ?eld and a minimum of one (1) year experience in Child Protective Services.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Required to pass a background check and ?ngerprint clearance as a condition of employment and must continue
to maintain throughout duration of employment. Background checks are required for positions that involve regular
contact with or control over Community Children in accordance with The Indian Child Protection and Family
Violence Prevention Act, 25 U.S.C. Sections 3201 through 3210 and C.F.R. Part 63 and positions that have
regular contact with the Elderly.Required to obtain a Tribal Driving permit. Valid state driver’s license with a current proof of driving record for
the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must be
submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the
application.Required mandatory reporter pursuant to Title 7, Chapter 2 (7.205), B.
Required to attend Title 7 Mandatory Reporting training on a yearly basis.Non-Supervisory, Salaried Position
