ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:
Ensures a comprehensive IT infrastructure effectively and efficiently for the Gila
River Indian Community. Oversees 7 Sections, Administration, Help Desk, Support, Network, Data Center,
Database, and Security.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Director, Management Information Systems (MIS) is responsible for defining, updating, and implementing
Information Technology (IT) strategy by aligning IT objectives and programs to enterprise objectives and
strategic goals across the organization. This position performs administrative and professional work in directing,
planning, organizing and managing the activities and staff of the MIS Department, including personnel computers,
mainframe computer processing, micrographic/ records, word processing, and their application to departmental
operations; conducts feasibility studies regarding utilization of facilities and equipment relating to data
processing, developing long and short-range goals and objectives, priority setting and coordination of contractor
activities for software and hardware programs and systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
0 Plan, organize, coordinate and direct the activities of the MIS department; supervise and evaluate the work of
subordinate administrative staff.
0 Develop, implement and conduct periodic reviews of standard operating procedures for efficiency and
effectiveness of computer programs and related documentation.
0 Plan and direct the application of computer and of?ce automation technologies; plan overall computer and
network strategy for GRIC to maintain growth path for automation.
0 Review and recommend security improvements regarding information system security.
0 Provide direction on major projects or problem areas, and develop and implement policies and procedures
applicable to the administrative functions; provide overall policy guidance.
0 Technical advisor and representative for public safety hardware and software.
0 Prepare and coordinate computer related requests for proposals; conduct information system procurement
review and GRIC procurement approval.
0 Work with vendor organizations in the acquisition of computer hardware and software.o Participate in collaborative activities including committees and task forces regarding strategic planning for
short and long-range goals and problem-solving.o Consult with management, department heads, and other Community staff to provide input for coordination ofprograms involving computer and office technologies.Maintain awareness of new technologies, philosophies, trends and advances in the profession.Develop and administer the annual department budget.Prepare written documents such as legal contracts, requests for bids, and purchases.Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:0 Extensive knowledge of the theories, principles, techniques and applications of electronic data processing to
data control and management systems and of the technical aspects of automated systems design and computer
operations.
0 Working knowledge of Tribal government including informational needs and operations procedures.
0 Knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
0 Knowledge of the Gila River Indian Community Policies and Procedures.
0 Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
0 Knowledge of the principles and methods of management, supervision, training, performance appraisals,
budget preparation, and expenditure control.
0 Skill in effectively managing staff, delegating tasks and authority, and training staff.
0 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
0 Excellent customer service skills.
0 Ability to effectively plan, supervise and coordinate work of others.
0 Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
0 Ability to understand schematic drawings and layouts to plan for computer network planning.

0 Ability to monitor and review programs to determine effectiveness.
0 Ability to determine the most effective utilization of equipment and human resources.
0 Ability to review evaluations of new hardware, software and developments within the field of MIS anddetermine appropriateness of use in Community operations.
0 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials
and the general public.
0 Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology,
Management Information or closely related field and a minimum of seven (7) years of senior management
experience in the administration of IT project management, network administration and technical support which
includes four (4) years of supervisory experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Required to pass a background check.Required to obtain a Tribal driving permit. Valid state driver’ s license with a current proof of driving record for
the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must be
submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the
application.Supervisory, Salaried Position
