DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Wastewater Plant Operator I is an entry-level position in wastewater plant operations. Work is routine and
involves the basic operation, maintenance and control at the Wastewater Treatment facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Operate and maintain activities of wastewater treatment facilities throughout the Gila River Indian
Community.Perform operation and maintenance of the wastewater facilities, ground maintenance, and building
maintenance.Attend training programs to conduct regular work in areas of safety certi?cation within assigned areas of
wastewater treatment.Suggest ideas in order to improve operational ef?ciency in wastewater systems and lagoon operations.
Ensure safe operation of all equipment systems and facilities.Follow all applicable safety standards and practices, including work-zone safety, Blue Stake, personal
protective equipment, con?ned space entry, lockout-tag procedures, and hazard communications as mandated
by OSHA and other agencies.Attend meetings as required.Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:Working knowledge of the functions and servicing requirements of wastewater plant machinery and
equipment, and of the processes involved in the treatment and disposal of wastewater.Mechanical aptitude in the use of hand tools.Ability to follow standardized procedures for operation, maintenance, and repair of utility systems, sample
water and wastewater, maintain current data ?les, prepare reports.Ability to learn the use of instrumentation and control equipment including the Supervisory Control and Data
Acquisition (SCADA) system.

and the general public.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
High School diploma or GED and a minimum of one (1) year experience in water treatment plant operations and
water distribution systems, general construction, maintenance repair work and/ or equipment maintenance or
closely related work experience. Six (6) months actual work experience at a Water Treatment Plant preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Department of Environmental Quality or Inter Tribal Council of
Arizona Grade II certification in Water Treatment upon hire.Must obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Department of Environmental Quality or Inter Tribal Council of
Arizona Grade I certi?cation in Water Distribution within one (1) year of hire.Required to obtain a Tribal Driving permit. Valid state driver’s license with a current proof of driving record
for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must be
submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the
application.Non- Supervisory, Hourly Position
